So, the business number is connected to the right hand jack. If it's connected to the right side, calling that number produces the desired results. My sister's business telephone number that supposedly is on the left hand side is not. We have two wall jacks and even there, the numbers that are written to the side of each (Verizon's doing) are just plain wrong. We have the 6830 machine with additional connections to an AT&T TAD 1740, and an old style landline telephone. Our setup has a certain degree of complexity. My sister was using the fax primarily for a home business. I don't believe we ever had a problem either sending or receiving a fax. That fax machine stopped working so we replaced that one with an HP 6830 All-in-One Printer/Scanner/Fax machine that we have to this day. Here is my problem: For a long time, we had a Brother fax machine with a built-in phone. Introducing any complexity is extraordinarily difficult for them. Going through Verizon doesn't seem to be an option at this point because we've had any number of "technicians" attending to problems relating to faxes in the past and they end up totally befuddled. I have read a huge number of HP documents and Forum questions concerning both the HP Test Fax Number and Fax connections.
